What is ChatGPT?

ChatGPT combines conversation with built-in tools: web search, file and image analysis, image generation, voice conversations and agent features that can complete tasks in a browser on the user's behalf.

OpenAI's current models are the GPT-5.6 family, released in July 2026, and GPT-6 Astra, which OpenAI introduced in September 2026 and is rolling out to paid plans first. Which model answers a request depends on the plan and the task.

ChatGPT has a free tier, paid individual plans and Business and Enterprise plans for organisations. In the US, Go costs $8 a month, Plus $20 and Pro $100 or $200. Free and Go use GPT-5.6 Luna; Plus adds GPT-5.6 Sol with adjustable thinking, and Pro adds GPT-6 Pro.
